About Us
Our farm has been in the Peterson family for almost a hundred years. My dad, Tom Peterson (or Mr. Tom) has lived here off and on since he was three years old. He is now 86 years old. His grandparents, Earnest and Ruby Peterson, homesteaded this property back in the 1920’s. Ruby loved this property, especially the creek. She was called “Granny” and she was a true woman of the land. Although she was only 5’2” and weighed less than 100 pounds, she was tough and could take care of herself. Granny was born in 1892 and grew up in the Oklahoma territory. At the turn of the century, she and her family came to Texas in a covered wagon. She preferred to spend her time outdoors. She wore farm boots with her dress and carried a rifle everywhere she went. She slept on the screened in porch at the back of the house; rolled her own cigarettes; and fished for dinner. Ruby loved children. We all grew up spending time with Granny and her favorite place to be was the creek.
My dad has used this property for many purposes over the years. He has grown crops, he has raised cattle and most recently he bred and trained bucking bulls. When he retired from the bull business a couple of years ago, we decided to create a recreational farm for families. We thought it was only fitting that we name it after our beloved and colorful grandmother, Ruby.
We love this land and we want to share it with you. It is our hope that Ruby Creek will bless your family the way it has blessed ours.
Looking forward to meeting you!
